Dr. Michael Hernandez
PROFESSIONAL BIO
Dr. Michael Hernandez is a Pulmonologist in South Miami, Florida and is affiliated with Baptist Hospital, South Miami Hospital, and Doctors Hospital. Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Dr. Hernandez attended the University of Miami as an undergraduate and majored in Psychology and Biology. He received his medical degree from the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. Upon graduating, he completed both his Internal Medicine and Pulmonary/Critical Care training at the University of Texas Southwestern.
Upon completing his fellowship in Texas, Dr. Hernandez returned home to Miami. Notably, he performed as co-director of the South Miami ICU for one year. He is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at FIU Herbert Wertheim School of Medicine and is the director of the Pulmonary Medicine rotation for all 3rd and 4th year medical students. Dr. Hernandez also was responsible for implementing the smoking cessation protocols implemented throughout the entire Baptist Health system. He is also the director of Interventional Pulmonary Medicine at South Miami Hospital. Dr. Hernandez is one of the few Pulmonologists performing advanced endoscopic procedures such as Navigational Bronchoscopy, Bronchial Thermoplasty, and Endobroncial Ultrasound (EBUS).
He specializes in treating all pulmonary diseases such as asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, sleep medicine and lung cancer.
